Hamilton Creek

I had to go to Nashville Saturday for a meeting and after met my old friend JJ for a ride at Hamilton Creek. It had been three years since I had been to Hamilton and as often as I am in Nashville I don't understand why. That place is the single best city park style riding I have ever done. Man is that place fun, rocks, drops, tight, technical single track. It was my first time pedaling in a while and I felt it. I need to start pedaling more often for sure. Off to a hike with Tgaines now.

Football

It's football time. Game after game at the moment. Seems that's all I have any time for at the moment. Kids are loving it though and getting better with every game. The next time I mention coaching someone should slap me though.

Been a while

Sorry for the delay, I guess I have been busy. Spent yesterday hiking Frozen Head with TGaines and his family as well as my own family. That place is a treasure trove of great trails, shame we can't ride there. TGaines and I are planning an exploratory ride of the open trails and checking out the now closed Brushy Mountain Prison. It seems that it would be a cool place to check out. Anyway, pics of yesterdays hike are posted here. Today was Windrock day and I was shown one of the more cool trails out there. Jumps and berms, had no idea it existed. More people need to check this thing out, probably not a good thing normally on the weekend but it was slow out there today.

Off Again

I'm headed to St. Louis again today. Twice in two weeks, lovely. I have Monday and Tuesday meetings there so we decided to take the kids and let them see a Cardinals game and the city museum. Hopefully it will be a fun trip and by the time I get back I will be recovered to ride. I'm nursing a torn calf muscle and haven't much felt like riding just yet. Not much else to say except for, man has it been raining.

Recoverish

Feeling much better, leg still hurts like a bastard but it is livable. I'm in Ohio heading back to Knoxville tomorrow. What do you do when you can't ride. You go to amusement parks. They provide fantastic opportunities for both entertainment and people watching. Amusement parks are where fanny packs go to die. Kids had an awesome time as did I. Cedar Point is absolutely the Whistler of amusement parks. Holy crap it's fun. Anyway, check out the p.o.v. videos on this website to get an idea of the rides this place has. The Top Thrill Dragster was ridiculous but my favorite had to be Maverick. I can't believe the kids rode all of those. Today we took a trip to the Pro Football Hall of Fame. I really enjoyed looking at all of the memorabilia and the old school helmets and such. Those guys were men for sure. I was shocked at how the kids got into checking out the stuff. Photos come when I get home. Oh, I got a new Iphone app that somehow gauges your sobriety. I fully plan to have a competition at some point this week if anyone wants to get in.

Interesting Week

I am still recovering from one of my worst Windrock crashes I've had from the past weekend. I tried to put my helmet through a tree and it never gave an inch. I don't think my head has quit hurting since and I know my shoulders, back, and leg haven't. I have been doing some traveling this week. First, a drive to Atlanta followed by a flight to and from St. Louis. Today we leave for Cleveland to visit my folks, it's been two years since we have been. We plan to go to Cedar Point tomorrow which should make for some fun pictures and we may go to the football hall of fame on Saturday before returning home on Sunday. Not what I want to do with a weekend in the summer but rather what I should do. That seems to be the choices I've been making of late, not necessarily what I want to do but rather what I should do. I need to put a lot of thought into that comment.

Cheers

Going to Waste

I was trying to decide what to do this afternoon, Friday afternoons are usually pretty dead in my job, at least that's what I tell myself. Harley Doug texted to let me know he was the one who had told me about Garden State and then asked if I was interested in riding either Lake City or Walden Ridge. Walden Ridge was the shorter drive so I opted for that and we agreed to meet at 2. It has been close to a year I guess since I have ridden Walden and apparently about that long since many other people have also. I guess Knoxville has so many options that people tend to forget about Walden and rarely head out there. There were spots where I couldn't tell where the trail was any longer but man that place is fun. We rode out to just short of the pump road and turned around and headed back. Even with the heavy rains we had on Wednesday and Thursday the trails were in near perfect shape. I know those trails aren't for everyone, they are super challenging, but they sure are a heck of a lot more fun than doing a greenway ride when Haw Ridge, the queen, and Concord are too wet. I'm going to try and make it a point to hit these trails once a week as I'm pretty sure if I get to where I can ride that stuff I'll be fit in no time. Anyway, the above picture is of Doug doing his best impression of a turtle on its back.
